On November 1, 2006, my sister Rendy, her son, Will, my niece, Deborah, and I embarked on a trip to see my other sister Marilyn, who lives in Junction, IL. Marilyn lives very close to Mt Erie, IL where many of my grandfather and great grandfather Travers and their families lived, died and are buried. We were anxious to visit with Marilyn and her husband, Keith, (who are Deborah's parents), and decided to do just that, hoping to also have time to visit Mt Erie and the Travers Cemetery there. We had no idea if we could find it, but having gotten some information from Travers message boards and other family researchers, we thought it worth trying. After visiting with the relatives in Junction, and having a great time playing Bingo with them at the VFW, and visiting relatives in Posey Co, IN, we took a day to explore Mt Erie and the surrounding area. We did find the Travers Cemetery, with the help of 2 ladies at the local shake shop in Mt. Erie...lol. One Travers relative, Nathaniel Travers, bought the land and actually drew up the plans for Mt Erie, from what I understand from research. It is very small now but a beautiful country landscape with rolling hills and clusters of trees interspersed occasionally. It is located on the highway out of Mt Erie and has a large white sign in front reading "Travers Cemetery". We were thrilled to find it and actually see how pleasant the surroundings, gentle breezes blowing, knowing our Travers ancestors most likely lived close by, since transportation was a factor back then in moving about much. We were able to take many pictures of the tombstones and churches in both Mt Erie and  Old Beech Cemetery in Posey County, IN. I will post them on this site soon. We had so much fun visiting relatives, alive and dead, that we ended up calling our trip the "Travers YaYa Sisterhood Trip"! Poor Will was the only male in the group and I think we educated him on lots of subjects including Travers geneology. He was our navigator and a great sport! He's young and took it all in stride. Look for pics soon....Connie
