As published in the Funeraldigest.com obituaries 12/25/09:
Dorothy was born September 26, 1935 to Archie and Okal Blackburn in Wadesville, Indiana. She graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana, and later moved to Dayton, Ohio, with her family. She spent the last 11 months of her life living with her son and daughter-in-law and enjoying the beauty of the mountains in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Prior to that, she and her husband, Edward, lived several years in O'Fallon, Missouri, having moved there from Florida. At age 62, she retired, after working in various administrative positions in the banking and insurance industries. Her "early" retirement was brought on by a hard-won battle with colon cancer, as well as the joyous, long-awaited birth of her first grandchild, Kendall, whom she adored. She spent the next 12 years, enjoying frequent visits with family, and ultimately devoting herself to care for her husband, during the last two years of his life. Raised Baptist, she and her husband later became members of the Winter Springs Seventh Day Adventist Church (Florida). She had a deep faith that sustained her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 32 years, and her older brother, Donald Blackburn. Dorothy, or "Dotty" to her husband and friends, is survived by her sons, Doyle Minton (wife, Debra), of Colorado Springs, Wesley Brewer (wife, Mary), of O'Fallon, Missouri; her granddaughter, Kendall Minton, of Colorado Springs; and by her dear sister, Dolores McKnight (husband, Mac), of Dallas, Texas. Dorothy also is survived by her daughter, Julie Stegman; her stepchildren, Kenneth Hall, Charles Hall, Ed Hall Jr., Vicky Whitman, Sharon Grupe and Pam Tucker; 28 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 5 nieces and nephews. Dorothy was an avid sports fan, her favorite teams being the Cincinnati Reds and the Dallas Cowboys! She loved playing the piano and singing, bowling, and especially time spent with her family. She was a joy to her family and well-liked by everyone whose life she touched. Although we are deeply saddened, our hearts are greatly comforted knowing there is a joyous reunion taking place in Heaven as she is welcomed home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Wadesville, Indiana, with visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Schneider Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
